As a non-profit it is our mission to connect students with science and wildlife. We work with school districts to teach biology and genetics to 5th grade through 12th grade students. Tipping the Scales Research and Rescue uses the highly visual and colorful traits of reptiles, fish, birds, and insects to illustrate how biology works and how genes interact with one another.

Biology
Starting with 3rd graders we use our animals to teach biology on a basic level. As the age groups increase our lessons become more advanced. Using the animals we teach about their bodies work, how they grow and survive, and how their bodies differ from us. As lessons advance we begin to discuss how the animal’s major systems and organs work together. Our projects include demonstrations that allow the students to interact with wildlife.
Genetics
Tipping the Scales Research and Rescue’s genetics programs involve basic demonstrations starting with 5th graders. We allow students to interact with animals and explain how their genetics create the colors and patterns that they display. As our lessons advance we explain a complete breakdown on how the genetics interact and work together. We conduct breeding projects that illustrate the new colors and patterns that develop from the pairing of two original genetic types. In the offspring students are able to get a hands on example of what they have learned while gaining an appreciation for the animals and how to care for them.
Habitat/Conservation
We aim to teach every student we work with about the natural habitat of the animals we aim to save. We educate on the conservation and care for the environment, the animals, and how they can make a difference in their conservation.

With a small contribution you can help students take part in our lessons.
Your donation will help us care for the animals we work with. You also help us make conducting our lessons fair and affordable for all our organization and the schools that we work with. When you donate directly to Tipping the Scales Research and Rescue your contribution promotes the development of science and the conservation of wildlife.

We offer several interactive lesson structures
Our lessons range from observation based demonstrations to hands-on interactions. We pride ourselves on providing a comprehensive connection to students with science and wildlife.
Learn how biology and genetics contribute to the beautiful and awe inspiring colors and patterns of the animals we work with.
BIOLOGY

Students are able to get a full interactive experience while getting to see how genetics play a part in color and pattern variation. Through breeding projects dominant and recessive genes are made visible, providing a colorful illustration in how they react to one another.
GENETICS

We aim to teach every student we work with about the natural habitat of the animals we aim to save. We educate on the conservation and care for the environment, the animals, and how they can make a difference in their conservation. We provide hands-on opportunities to learn about the impact we have on these animals and what we can do to conserve them for future generations.
